www.expatsurfer.co.uk is a service run by Copla ltd that allows you to access websites using a UK IP address. This means that you can access content normally reserved for traffic originating in the UK. It also provides protection from hackers on open networks and allows you to access sites blocked by your location or ISP.

Who runs expat surfer?

Expat Surfer is run by Copla ltd, an English limited company. Our registered address is

103/105 Brighton Road
Coulsdon
Surrey
CR5 2NG
UK

Registered in England: 5065751

Why do I need this service?

Companies modify their websites so that people who go to the website from different countries see different versions. In practice this means that if you want to watch British TV online you can only do so if the relevant website sees you as British. The website only tells what country you are from by you IP address. So by using our servers, with our IP address websites will recognise you as British.

Do you offer free trials?

Yes we do, we offer a 2 day free trial for you to see if the service is for you. Visit the free trial page for more details.

How do I set up expat surfer on my machine?

It's really simple; all you do is follow our easy set up guides. Just select your operating system and follow our step-by-step instructions, don't worry they're written in plain English!

How do I know if it's working?

As soon as you’ve signed up you'll be able to check that the service is working by visiting our site, you'll notice that at the bottom of the screen your IP address will be shown as UK.

I’ve changed my mind, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately due to misuse of credit cards we are unable to offer refunds, but remember you can cancel your subscription at any time. Just send an email a couple of days before your next renewal to [email protected]

However, if you are in any doubt about whether expat surfer is for you, we do offer a 2 day free trial, take a look at our
free trial page for more details.

I’m not very good with computers; can you help me set the service up?

Yes, of course! Our set up guides are written with an IT beginner in mind, please have a go with these. If, however, you’re still having problems we can remotely access your pc and set the service up for you.

The fee for this is £35 for around 30 minutes. We are able to set up the service on most machines in this time. However, there is no guarantee that we will be able to set up the service remotely as the software on your computer may have been modified. If we are unable to set up the service, you will still be charged.

What technology do you use?

We use a protocol called PPTP (Point to Point) to create a virtual “tunnel” between your computer and our servers. Data then passes through this secure tunnel. When you access the internet in this way your originating IP address is shown as our servers, meaning that you are shown the site you would see if you were located in the UK.

What is an IP address?

An IP address is like a real address and shows where your computer is located. When you connect to the internet you are assigned an IP address, this is done by your ISP (internet service provider), however if you use your computer when you travel you will be given a new IP address.

By connecting to Expat Surfer, you are allocated one of our UK IP addresses, so you will be identified as being in the UK.

Do you have a minimum contract period?

Using our pay-as-you-go option you only pay for one month at a time.

If you choose our low cost pay as you go option and cancel at least 48 hours before you next payment is due you will not be rebilled.

Are there any restrictions on the use of the service?

We do restrict the use of some services to protect the service for the enjoyment of all users. If you find you cannot access a service you’d like to please contact us for advice.

Does Expat Surfer monitor what I am doing online?

No, there is no way any of our staff can monitor what sites you are viewing, all we can see is that you are currently connected to our secure servers.

Do you have a fair usage policy?

Yes, if your usage impacts on other users we will class this as unfair usage and reserve the right to terminate your account.

What is the Service Level Agreement (SLA) of the Expat Surfer service?

Due to the nature of the service we are not able to enter into any SLA with our customers. However the company that we rent our servers from has a SLA with us of 99.4% which in practice should mean a service up time of 99.4% or above.
